S.S. Could you tell me about your intervention at MAXXI? How did you choose the position for displaying your work?
G.A.C. The choice of the space and the kind of intervention are closely linked. I think that the gallery 5, with the large window, is the most interesting of the museum. I would say also the most complex in terms of display, having been thought, at the beginning, as an auditorium and not as an exhibition hall. Read the rest of this entry »

S.S. Could you tell me shortly about your intervention at MAXXI?
P.D.M. Una Turandiade Buzziana (in forma di note) is a video constructed as an hypothesis for the staging of Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot within the ideal city of Tommaso Buzzi, in my opinion, for many reasons, the perfect marriage (as well as bizarre). Both works have been completed by others, in the case of the lyric by the composer Alfano, whereas in the case of the city by the nephew of the architect, Marco Solari. Read the rest of this entry »

S.S. Could you tell me shortly about your intervention at MAXXI?
A.P. My intervention at MAXXI consists of a video installation composed by four screens on which are scenes of rituals, faces and gestures that belong to an archive of sequences filmed in Albania in the early 1990s. In front of my eyes, these scenes appear as they were visions and the work, in a certain sense, does nothing else than give it a shape. My intervention tries to be light and not forced. S.S. Could you tell me shortly about your intervention at MAXXI?
L.T. Il dentro del fuori del dentro is an environment where a movie dominates the scene. It suggests the rhythm according to which you will move inside of it. There are holes, there are sounds, there are boundaries that are tested, broken, sniffed, explored. You can’t tell it, you have to put your finger inside like Thomas. Did you know that the shell of an egg is made of marble? Read the rest of this entry »

Salt Lake

Posted by cura. magazine January 27th, 2012

Part of tips

In 1986 Boris Mikhailov has retraced his father’s memories to the shores of a lake in the south of Ukraine, frequented by the local population for its assumed beneficial properties, despite a menacing scene of factories and smokestacks rising in the background over the years. The fifty photographs of Salt Lake form the portrait of a hidden and unknown Soviet Union, careless and indifferent, especially unaware of the impending disaster of Chernobyl and the collapse of the regime almost on its doorstep.

Until March 11 at La Criée, Rennes.

The most beautiful Kunsthalle in the world XVII

Posted by cura. magazine January 26th, 2012

Part of tips

The opening of the last season of the project The most beautiful Kunsthalle in the world (born from the collaboration between Fondazione Antonio Ratti and Como’s Chamber of Commerce within Laboratorio Como) is entrusted – today January 26 – to the meeting of the director of the Foundation, Marco De Michelis with the architect Nikolhaus Hirsh, rector of Städelschule and director of Portikus in Frankfurt. Their confrontation will revolve around issues closely linked to the aims of the initiative, the creation of a program for a future Contemporary Arts Center: among the topics addressed, the reasons, the location in the urban structure, the architectural modalities, the forms of governance and the territories of activity.
All materials produced during the course of the project become part of a useful open archive, available at Fondazione Antonio Ratti’s and Laboratorio Como’s website.

personal effectsonsale

Posted by cura. magazine January 26th, 2012

Part of tips

If the objects are linked to memories and moments of one’s own history, the personal effectsonsale project of a collective of artists and curators composed by Francesco Calzolari, David Casini, Viola Emaldi, Irene Guzman, Valentina Rossi, Marco Scotti and Sissi, brings into play many different stories, narratives that are entrenched within a bazaar of reuse, through a series of personal items imbued with a certain sentimental value that the more than 150 artists invited, have chosen to sell at the symbolic price of 9,99 euros. The dynamics between public and private, anonymity of the object and authorship of the work, trigger reflections on the market mechanism of the art system. The project will be presented from the 26th to the 29th January in Bologna in the Esprit Nouveau Pavilion, designed by Le Corbusier in 1925.
